DevPress is a collaboration of four developers and designers that have come together to design elegant themes, carefully craft usable and functional plugins, and pen readable tutorials for WordPress.
Each member of the team makes his living off of WordPress in some way. While we’re not self-proclaimed WP fanboys, we think highly of the software itself and are always trying to push its limits.
What you should know about DevPress is we are figuring this whole thing out. We don’t have a business plan or any hard-and-fast rules about the direction this site is headed in. Instead, we have dreams of what DevPress could eventually become, but at the moment, it’s a melting pot of the team’s collaborative effort. Although the direction is still a bit blurry… we do have one primary goal — to produce the best, highest quality, GPL’d, make you say “wha?!” kinda products. All in that order.
In short, we’re four guys putting in whatever time we have to build plugins/themes that we think are cool.
Today, we’re just building the foundation and not trying to make a big splash in the WordPress pool. DevPress is easing into the waters because it’s much better for us (and you) that we take our time making quality products rather than trying to push several mediocre products out at once.
Free Theme Release
We are announcing one new product: News, a WordPress theme. Not another news/magazine theme, right? DevPress doesn’t make themes like everyone else. We wanted to make a superior news theme.
News is a parent theme that works right out of the box using WordPress features and not having to figure out some crazy theme options panel. Features are built to collapse gracefully, meaning this theme will not break your site’s layout if you happen to not need a feature available in News. Features show up when you need them and disappear when you don’t. You can use it for a new or existing WordPress site. It doesn’t matter.
Unlike other powerful themes, News theme settings are less than a page long. However, it’s capable of so much more than your most popular magazine/news themes because it handles features smartly and works smoothly without forcing you to turn features on and off all the time. And, unlike other so-called premium themes, the details are taken care of. Even the calendar widget is styled. Yes, we had to take it to that level — styling the calendar widget.
- You’re welcome and encouraged to make child themes for News. We’ll be releasing child themes for it in the future that may change the style and/or add unique features.
- In all of our work, we’ll always do things the “WordPress way,” which ensures that our products will be future-proof and play nicely with other WP software that adheres to the same path.
Of course there’s a demo of News, and we’re glad to offer free support and documentation.
We hope you’ll take a minute to join in our forums and let us know what you think of the theme. And if you have any encouraging words for us you can let us know here.
We’re excited about the days ahead for DevPress. Thanks for taking the time to read up on us. Stay tuned for more exciting themes, plugins, and tutorials.

I anticipate great things from DevPress.. great start fellas!
Thanks. We’ve still got a lot of work to do, but we definitely have some cool things on the horizon.
Great work guys. Love the font on Devpress. Looks like Lobster?
Lobster, indeed. Thanks to Tung for the great design.
WOW very cool news theme – I think i might change the themergency theme to use this instead. Very cool! All the best and good luck with DevPress!
Congrats on your launch and on your first theme release. “News” looks like a nice solid theme that makes a good promise of what’s coming down the road. Nice way to start :)
Thanks Lisa! Glad you like it! It’s got a few bells and whistles under the hood so definitely that check out ;)
Grest idea I always love to see collaboration especially for wordpress. Would love to work with you guys myself.,
Congratulations to Justin, Patrick, Mr Potato and Ptah.
Wish you well with your new project.
PD: BTW Patrick, any chance of having a buddpress port of devpress news ?
Yep. BuddyPress support is definitely on the roadmap for News!
We would love all of our products to support everything Press. More than that though, we want to do it the *right* way. So it may take some time, but like Ptah said, its on the roadmap.
Thank you for this wonderful news.
Like I already said, having the four of you together is like playing soccer with Messi, Iniesta, Ibraimovich and Gerrard on the same side (equals to Tim Duncan, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and Lebron James in basketball)
BTW, any plans on using JT`s hybrid framework ?
Funny analogy! We’re already using the Hybrid framework inside of News. We didn’t want that piece of gold to go to waste. Hybrid will likely be the core framework for all of our parent themes.
Lookin’ good! Can’t wait to see what’s in store…
From Uruguay, thanks!
your work is amazing!!
i am dreaming living off of WordPress some day , too but it is too hard
i am reading and do stuff about WP from lats year (i have never do nothing in the web!!) and i love it!

Good luck
Congratulations guys!! I saw the News them some days ago on the WP theme review queue and inmediately downloaded (didn’t said anything to not ruin the surprise) and the code using Hybrid Core is simply great.
We’ll be waiting now for the forum plugin :)
What is this forums plugin you speak of?! Man, you already know what’s coming huh? :p thanks for your support, we definitely appreciate it!
Nice start, guys. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this.

Grats on the launch guys! I’ve been waiting eagerly to see what has to offer here. DevPress is bookmarked as one of my favorite premium WordPress resources site now.
Looking sweet, and I love the BuddyPress integration! :) Not to forget the cool stuff Justin has been doing with regards to a Forum Plugin, can’t wait to see what else DevPress.com has in store! — You guys rock!
Excellent! Can’t wait to see what you guys come up with!
congrats. I’m totally convinced now that I defected to the right group of people/tech/philosophy. themehybrid and the contributors have already increased our ROI and allowed us to say (and mean) “yea, we can do that.”
thanks guys.

Congrats on the new initiative and I’m looking forward to seeing how it progresses and hopefully being involved in the community in some way… usually that involves moaning and complaining a lot but that’s nothing new from me!
I suspect that I may not get the opportunity to complain to much here though based on what I’m seeing already. Good luck guys, great times!
What’s better than Justin’s tutorials? Justin + 3 other great devs writing tutorials. Thanks for this new venture guys!
Congratulations and good news for your fans.
Congratulations and looking forward to cool WordPress stuff from you guys! :D
Congratulations! Now it’s time for that fancy car.
If only we charged for comments.
Congratulations for this nice start
I like the devpress idea and this news theme :)

Really excited for you guys on the release. Stoked to try out your stuff and blog about it! Keep it up!
I learned how to code my first theme from Tung Do’s tutorials, and I’ve learned how to code advanced stuff from Justin’s tutorials and plugins. So, right off the bat I’m biased :)
Great job!
Hey congrats on this partnership guys, can’t believe I only saw this now, how long has it been going? I also can’t believe I missed the resurfacing of Small Potato, interesting partnership … all the best for what lies ahead

Looking forward top some great stuff, Justin! Glad you decided to team up with some folks — love what I’ve seen and learned from ThemeHybrid and loof forward to more here!

yes… Justin… love your work and learnt lot from your work…
Really this theme is kooooollll… i downloded.. it … and will see what magic you did it .. with it….
thanks… a lot
Just a heads up, the file bg.gif (part of this theme) is 360kb, and for some reason was taking about 10 seconds to load (I have a 4mbit connection). Reminded me of 1999 watching the page load, but probably not the effect you’re going for ;)
congratulations !!!!!!!
i like this theme :D
Hi guys, I really like your News theme, but I can’t configure it properly: there isn’t any help toturalls.
Can you crat any video about configuration?
I really enjoy this theme, but I have problem with font coding. I try build site, but in utf-8 i have problem with displaying polish accents like ę, ń, ś. I tried change charset to iso-8859-2 but i can`t do it, because I don`t know from where is head section loaded. Can somebody help me?
Hello to DevPress! I’m helping a friend set up a tiny WordPress site using your nice News theme, and we can’t figure out how to configure a couple of things. There’s nowhere else on your site that I found documentation or support, so this seemed like the place to ask. Primarily, I’m wondering how to get content to display on the “home” page. Is there a way I can tag one of the pages I’ve built to be the Home or Index page? (Not the Home template, but the actual page that displays when you visit the index page.) Thanks!
Yes there is, go to “Reading” and set the front page to the one you’d like to use. Then, edit that page and select the template you want it to use.
Really liking the clean News theme
thanks guys. keep it up.
